The Messengers Opening Scene. 

Through out the opening scene of The Messengers, it's all in black and white including the titles. The black and white differentiates the difference in time, black and white is to show along time ago and when it then flips to colour it indicates that were now in the current time. 

During the opening sequence and even when some of the characters are talking there is eery non-digetic music being played in the background which is to make the audience feel uncomfortable and scared but also want to continue watching. 

Theres a sense of feeling uncomfortable throughout the opening scene because of items in the room moving and you not knowing why, the woman screams and you can't see why, all you can see is a shadow. 

 

The opening sequence has a lot of close ups that, when watching the rest of the film has a lot of relevance to. For instance, the tractor the boy keeps onto in the opening sequence is found when it flips to the current day and when things start to unravel!
