EDITING SCHEDULE

We all participated in editing the film and cropping the bits we wanted to be in it. Although some of us concentrated on different areas such as Bart did music, Roman did sound effects, Charlotte ordered the scenes and I did the titles and sequence. We aimed to finish our editing by the 1st of December which was a goal that we reached and then make any finishing touches afterwards.

Iconic sounds associated with the Horror genre

Every genre ahs its iconic sounds. The genre we chose to do for our opening sequence (horror) includes sounds such as screams, blood flowing out of someones bode, bones being broken, thumping sounds on the floors, or even dead silence. Every single of these sounds evokes a certain type of emotion. Scream usually evokes the feeling that the character is helpless, weak and is scared. Blood dripping or bones cracking often evoke disgust, or sympathy. Dead silence on the other hand builds up tension and makes the audience expect the worse.

Still frame analysis

Still frame analysis-
This is a still from Quarantine, a 2008 American horror film. The camera is at a slanted angle and is on the floor to show that she is in trouble and reaching out to for help as if to the audience. There is no lighting as it is clear that it is being filmed in pitch black with a night vision camera. The actress is covered in cuts, bruises and dirt and has a scruffy look to show that she has been through bad times. This still is in the last few seconds of the film and it gives the impression that someone is going to come up behind her as she will not realise but the audience will so there is a bit of dramatic irony used.

DVD Cover analysis

This is the dvd cover of Saw.

You can tell its in the horror genre for many reasons. Firstly, the colours it uses. There are mainly dark colours like black which shows that this film is dark and not a "happy" film. Also the writing it uses and the style, a big bold red title connotates blood as its the same colour and the style looksl it has been written in blood. Furthermore, the pictures includes, the front cover shows a foot which looks like it has been trapped. Also the back cover shows a girl trapped in a head mask which connotates people in the story are trapped by someone or something. In addition to this the writing on the cover is a massive clue as to what genre this is. The quote "How much blood would you shed to stay alive" shows that people suffer in this film to stay alive. Also the quotes from the reviews "A Revoolutionary Shocker" shows that this film may be scary which is a characteristic of the genre. Also the sysnopsis of the film shows its a horror as it explains part of the story. Finally, the cover includes the certification of the film which in this case is an 18, this shows its a horror as younger people aren't allowed to watch it.

Conventions of Thriller genre.

The genre of thriller has it's own convention of filming. Most thriller films are told in first person and narrate what happens in the story. Thriller uses alot of camera work alot, quick cuts and camera angle changes. It can use anything like the use of lighting. Shadows are used alot aswell as mirrors and stairs, they are very good conventions of thriller films.

Uncompleted.
