Analysing an opening sequence

As part of our research and planing for our opening sequence we have been asked to analyse 3 opening sequences of films from the same genre as ours, which is horror.

I have chosen to analyse the opening of Saw.

The colours used in the titles and the things you see are all dark, the signifies fear or danger. The music used is slow, very low toned and slowly builds up. This helps build tension and suspense. The titles used are very dark, the title of "Twister Pictures" is covered in barbed wire and a knife in the middle which can connotate being trapped, protecting something or someone or even death. Other titles in the opening are in a blue writing on a black background and the transition is like a dripping which can connatate blood or water which can also signify drowning. The titles also shake which can show fear as when people are scared they can shake, also this can show anger as people shake when they're angry and finally it can show cold because people shiver when they're cold. There is only one character in the opening sequence, he is shown waking up in a bath tub full of water, as he awakens there is emphasis on the water going down the plughole which can show the draining of life. Also as he has woken up in totally un familiar surroundings this shown he cant remember how he got there which can mean he has been affected by something as he cant remember or that he has been taken there and trapped by somebody.
